Indy 500 Toy Exhibit Adds Holiday Spirit For IMS Museum Visitors

More than 200 Indianapolis 500- and racing-related toys are on display through January in a special display in the IMS Hall of Fame Museum.

Visitors to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum can feel the holiday spirit through a new exhibit featuring Indianapolis 500 and racing-themed toys.

Among the more than 200 toys and memorabilia items on display are numerous die-cast, slot, gas-powered and model cars from the 1920s to the 1990s. Other items include board games from the 1920s, a tin lunch box, vinyl records of "500" race broadcasts from the 1950s and a Japanese tin car replica of the 1952 Indy 500-winning car autographed by race winner Troy Ruttman.

The collection, which will be on display until the end of January, is on loan from Ted and Cathy Knorr of Speedway, Ind.

The Hall of Fame Museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (ET) every day of the year except for Christmas Day. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children ages 6-15, and kids age 5 and younger are free.

On Sunday, Dec. 23, admission will be free as part of the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association's holiday promotion "12 Free Days of Indy Christmas."
