ESPN On ABC Continues Storied Tradition Of Indy 500 Telecasts

ESPN on ABC will televise the 2008 Indianapolis 500 live, the 44th consecutive year that ABC is broadcasting "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing."

ESPN on ABC will televise the 92nd Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 25, 2008, the 44th consecutive year that ABC is broadcasting "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing."

ABC first televised the Indianapolis 500 in 1965. It's the second-longest relationship between a network and a sports property, surpassed only by CBS and The Masters.

Race Day coverage next May will start with a one-hour pre-race show at noon (ET), followed by flag-to-flag live coverage at 1 p.m. ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 also will cover Indianapolis 500 qualifying May 10-11 and 17-18.

Helio Castroneves, recent winner of "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC, will try to win the Indianapolis 500 for the third time this May. Only eight drivers in the storied history of the race, first run in 1911, have won the world's most prestigious auto race at least three times.

Other top drivers expected to compete at Indianapolis include Indy winners Dan Wheldon and Buddy Rice, series champions Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon and Scott Sharp, and Indianapolis 500 Chase Rookies of the Year Danica Patrick and Marco Andretti.

The entire 16-race season for the IndyCar® Series will appear on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. The 2008 television schedule includes seven events each on ESPN2 and ABC, and two on ESPN.
