Jaime Camara wore his Conquest Racing firesuit for most of the day - for warmth and to be ready if called to pit lane. That call never came.
Persistent showers forced cancellation of second-day practice activity at 3:15 p.m. (ET). It's the first time since May 13, 2006 (Pole Day) that a full day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been lost to inclement weather.
There's always tomorrow - or maybe not. The weather forecast is for showers to linger through May 8. Practice is scheduled from noon-6 p.m. (ET).
On May 6, the first day of practice for the entire field, Marco Andretti led the way with a quick lap of 226.599 mph (39.7177 seconds) on the 2.5-mile oval. Thirty-three car/driver pairings totaled 1,385 laps.
One lost practice day isn't detrimental to teams/drivers - even Camara, whose No. 34 Conquest Racing car made contact with the Turn 1 SAFER Barrier on May 5. He was cleared to return to the track by Indy Racing League medical officials.
"Usually, I'm not happy when it rains because it takes track time away from the teams and it slows down the development we have planned for the month," said Camara, who said he was feeling "fine" after the incident. "But it was good for me because I didn't lose another day on track and tomorrow we are going to start with everyone else.
"Because of my crash, we were a step behind, but now we will be caught up. So we're kind of happy that it rained today because we needed to do a seat fitting and finish the cars."
If the weather cooperates, at least two additional cars to the 33 on track Tuesday are expected to participate in the six-hour session, Camara's and the No. 24 Roth Racing car driven by Jay Howard.
