
Indianapolis 500 veterans Michael Andretti and Paul Goldsmith are two of seven 2008 inductees into the The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.
1969 Indianapolis 500 winner Mario Andretti will present his son for induction during the 20th annual Induction Ceremony Aug. 13 at the Fillmore Detroit. IMS Historian Donald Davidson will present Goldsmith.
Other members of the class of 2008 include Buddy Baker (NASCAR), John Force (drag racing), Richie Ginther (sports cars), Wayne Rainey (motorcycles) and Betty Skelton (aerobatics).
Legendary Indy car team owner Carl Haas also will be recognized as the ninth recipient of the Bob Russo Heritage Award for his significant contribution to American motorsports. Haas is co-owner of Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing, which competes in the IndyCar Series.
Michael Andretti made 16 Indianapolis 500 starts between 1984-2007, with a best finish of second in 1991. He recorded nine top-10 finishes in his 16 starts and led 431 laps, the most by any non-winner of the race.
Andretti won the CART title in 1991 and finished in the top three in the CART standings eight times overall. Andretti is co-owner of Andretti Green Racing, which competes in the IndyCar Series.
Goldsmith made six Indianapolis 500 starts between 1958-63, with a best finish of third in 1960. He also placed fifth in 1959.
One of the most versatile racers in American history, Goldsmith competed in AMA motorcycle, and open-wheel and stock car auto racing events. He won the 1953 Daytona 200 motorcycle race and was USAC National Champion in stock cars in 1961 and 1962.
The Motorsports Museum & Hall of Fame is located in Novi, Mich.
