The seventh annual Firestone Freedom 100 is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the marquee event of the 15-race Firestone Indy Lights schedule in 2009.
The Firestone Freedom 100 is fifth race on the 2009 schedule and one of seven oval events. The 40-lap race takes place on the 2.5-mile IMS oval on Miller Lite Carb Day, two days before the 93rd Indianapolis 500.
"The opportunity to compete on Carb Day at Indianapolis in front of more than 100,000 fans is an experience that is second to none for our drivers, teams and sponsors," said Roger Bailey, executive director of Firestone Indy Lights.
Dillon Battistini won the sixth annual Firestone Freedom 100 in May.
The Firestone Indy Lights is the premier ladder series for drivers and teams striving to compete in the IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500. All Firestone Indy Lights races, including the Firestone Freedom 100, will be telecast in high-definition on VERSUS and available through live Webcasts on www.indycar.com.
Graduates of this fast and cost-effective series include current IndyCar Series stars Marco Andretti, Ed Carpenter, A.J. Foyt IV and Hideki Mutoh.
