1999 Indianapolis 500 winner Kenny Brack will bring fans a different kind of entertainment with the launch of his new band, Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers.
The seven-person, Indianapolis-based cover band plays a wide variety of classic rock and blues tunes from The Rolling Stones and ZZ Top to The Clash and Creedence Clearwater Revival. The group will appear at a variety of racing events beginning in its hometown of Indianapolis and will occasionally be joined by guest appearances from well-known rockers.
Brack, who'll start sixth in the 87th Indianapolis 500 on May 25, and his band's opening performance will come following a full day of action on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 22 in Miller Lite Carb Day. Brack's group will open for the band Cracker at 3:30 p.m. (EST). Brack will participate in Miller Lite Carb Day practice earlier in the day as the driver of the No. 15 Rahal/Letterman/Miller Lite/Pioneer Dallara/Honda/Firestone.
Brack has a love of music that is only rivaled by his passion for the racetrack.
"Everyone has been really supportive of my efforts to create this band," Brack said. "Pioneer came forward to sponsor us, and Team Rahal has also been a great support. I know that my number-one priority is to win on the track. But I'm hoping to win some music fans along the way with Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers."
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. has a 25-year history with motorsports and an even longer history manufacturing audio and video equipment for home and in-car use.
"We're excited to be Kenny's sponsor both on and off the track," said Ed Sachs, senior vice president of the mobile entertainment division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "He shows the same commitment to his music that he does on the racetrack and we know he'll be successful in both arenas. We're looking forward to seeing Kenny on stage a lot this year - with his band, and at the racetrack accepting trophies."
Joining Brack (lead guitar) in the seven-person rock cover group will be local favorites Gene Deer (vocals and guitar), Kelsey Smith (vocals), Charlie Bushor (drums) and Dave Wyatt (bass) along with racing publicists Kathy Prather of Access Motorsports (vocals) and Laz Denes of Mo Nunn Racing (vocals and guitars).
With Pioneer Electronics as the presenting sponsor for Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers, the band also is expected to make performances in Texas, Richmond, Nashville and Chicagoland on this year's IRL IndyCarTM Series.
