Pop Star Jessica Simpson To Sing National Anthem At Indy 500

Worldwide music sensation Jessica Simpson will sing the national anthem before the 88th Indianapolis 500 on May 30, Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials announced April 23.

Simpson's third album for Columbia Records, "In This Skin," was released in August 2003. It was her third album, following "Irresistible" in 2001 and her debut, "Sweet Kisses," in 1999.

Born and raised in Dallas, Simpson started her career in contemporary Christian music, performing with gospel superstars Kirk Franklin and Ce Ce Winans while still in junior high school.

Simpson signed with Columbia in the late 1990s. The release of "Sweet Kisses" in 1999 spawned the smash singles, "I Wanna Love You Forever," "I Think I'm In Love" and "Where You Are."

"Irresistible," the title track to her second album, was a crossover chart smash. It reached No. 3 on the Top 40 Mainstream chart, No. 5 on the Top 40 Tracks, No. 12 on the Rhythmic Top 40 and No. 15 on the Hot 100.

Simpson made her songwriting debut on her most recent release, "In This Skin." The album was re-released March 2 and is double platinum.

Despite touring to support her three musical releases, Simpson also has built a budding acting career. She has appeared in several TV shows and starred in the April 11 "Nick and Jessica Variety Show" with her husband, singer Nick Lachey. Simpson has also filmed a pilot for her own sitcom.

Simpson also co-stars with her husband in the MTV reality show, "Newlyweds." The hit show is the No. 1 show on MTV in its second season. ***
