The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its signature event, the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, earned accolades from the Web site msn.com as one of the premier attractions in the United States.
The Speedway and Indianapolis 500 were included in the popular site's "Top 10 Things to Do Before You Die" in the United States feature.
The Indianapolis 500, a race with a worldwide reputation and a rich history going back to its inaugural running in 1911, was listed ninth among other all-American attractions such as Wrigley Field (home of the Chicago Cubs), the Golden Gate Bridge, Mardi Gras, the Empire State Building, and Willie Nelson's annual Fourth of July Picnic in Austin, Texas.
"It is a tremendous honor for MSN to link the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indy 500 with so many other iconic American landmarks and events," said Joie Chitwood, IMS senior vice president, business affairs. "The Speedway has built a legacy of world-class entertainment for our fans for almost a century, and that commitment will continue in 2005 and beyond."
The 89th running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 29, 2005. The race is the largest single-day sporting event in the world and is often referred to as the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing."
msn.com's top-10 list served as the foundation for a larger list of top-10 things to see and do in 39 American cities, called "390 Things to Do Before You Die." Given the Speedway's high ranking overall, it also was listed as the No. 1 attraction in Indianapolis.

msn.com, also known as the Microsoft Network, provides dial-up e-mail and Web access, and news and lifestyle content. It is the No. 2 Web site in the world in terms of number of hits.
In addition to the Indianapolis 500, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway annually plays host to two other world-class sporting events: the Brickyard 400, part of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, and the United States Grand Prix, part of the FIA Formula One World Championship.
The Speedway also is home to two other popular attractions: the Hall of Fame Museum, which houses an impressive collection of classic race cars, automobiles, motorcycles and automotive artifacts and art work, and also the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, an 18-hole, championship-caliber course designed by famous golf course designer Pete Dye. ***
