Sam Hornish Jr. and Marco Andretti, whose spellbinding duel in the 90th Indianapolis 500 captivated fans worldwide, lead a number of drivers eligible for season-ending awards who competed this year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Hornish, who edged Andretti by .0635 of a second for his first Indy 500 victory, is one of four featured candidates for the International Racing Driver of the Year Award voted by readers of prestigious weekly motorsports magazine Autosport. Two other featured candidates are 2006 United States Grand Prix winner Michael Schumacher and USGP veteran and 2006 World Champion Fernando Alonso.

2005 Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon and USGP veteran Jenson Button are among the candidates for British Competition Driver of the Year in the Autosport Awards, which will be revealed Dec. 3 in London.

Andretti is one of 10 nominees for online voting for the Autosport 2006 Rookie of the Year, with polling open now at autosport.com, and also was nominated for the RACER Rookie of the Year Award.

Other nominees for the Autosport rookie award include American Formula One driver Scott Speed, fellow USGP rookie starter Nico Rosberg and Allstate 400 at the Brickyard rookie Denny Hamlin.

The winner of the RACER award will be announced during a special program on Speed Channel in February 2007. Beginning the week of Nov. 20, Speed will air nominees for the fan-vote categories, including Rookie of the Year, and fans can vote at speedtv.com.
