Popular Indy 500 History Class Open For Students This October

IMS Historian Donald Davidson, right, will teach his popular "History of the Indianapolis 500" class in the fall for the first time this October. He also will teach the class during its traditional time slot in April.

For the first time, the popular "History of the Indianapolis 500" class taught by Indianapolis Motor Speedway Historian Donald Davidson is being offered in the fall.

The class, also taught in April right before "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing," is a non-credit course offered through the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Continuing Studies Program.

"History of the Indianapolis 500" convenes from 7-9 p.m. on four Tuesday evenings – Oct. 2, 9, 16 and 23 – at the Brickyard Crossing Inn. During the class, students will learn about everything from the Speedway's founding in 1909 to Dario Franchitti's rain-soaked win in the 2007 "500."

Davidson conveys the history of the world's most prestigious auto race through entertaining stories, anecdotes about his conversations with "500" legends, photo and video displays, and more.

Interested students can register several ways: via the IUPUI Continuing Studies Web site, www.cln.iupui.edu; by calling (317) 278-7600; by filling out the enrollment form available on the Web site and sending by mail or by fax to (317) 274-2638; or by visiting the Continuing Studies office, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, in the Union Building on IUPUI's campus.

Registration fee is $65, and a 10 percent discount applies to all who register online. For more information, visit the IUPUI Web site.
