De Ferran Edges Helio To Win At Indy
Gil de Ferran edged Marlboro Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves by .2990 of a second to win the 87th Indianapolis 500, denying Castroneves' chance to become the first driver to win the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" three consecutive times.

A Penske Racing car now has won at Indy the last five times the team has fielded a car in the starting lineup. Castroneves won in 2000 and 2001, Al Unser Jr. in 1994 and Emerson Fittipaldi in 1993.

Tony Kanaan finished third, 1.2475 seconds behind de Ferran. Tomas Scheckter was fourth and Tora Takagi fifth, both within two seconds of winner de Ferran.
