Indianapolis 500 Media Day Notebook
Herb Fishel will live a dream that started nearly a half-century ago when he drives the Chevy SSR Pace Vehicle to lead the start of the 87th Indianapolis 500 on May 25.Fishel, executive director of GM Racing, grew up in Winston-Salem, N.C. As a boy each May 30, he would set up a card table in his front yard. On it would be a radio tuned to Sid Collins' broadcast of the "500," a yellow pad and a pencil. As the famed announcer gave each 10-lap rundown of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing," Fishel would write them down.
