I was thinking, which is usually dangerous.
The Indianapolis 500 was there when Auto racing started. Over the years it has been the launching ground for a lot of performance and safety features that are now in our everyday vehicles. Now there is all the talk of alternate energy powered vehicles, and the biggest of these is electric. What if a new racing venue was started up to address the development of electric powered vehicles. Where else should something like this begin, but Indianapolis the Racing Capital or the World. It would be interesting to know what the reactions of all the automakers would be. There is nothing like a good competition to spur innovation. |

I agree. Let's have an electric car race at the Brickyard. Utilize standard 220V outlets for recharging. The only hard design rule should be that the battery packs cannot be removed. Anything goes as long as you only utilize the 220V charging station at a maximum of 100 amp service. The racing distance should be at least 400 miles, so that the cars would have to be charged at least one time during the race. I would also like to see an RC race. Full size vehicles, but the drivers are actually in the pit area with the crew. That way, the speeds do not have to be reduced to protect the driver, but rather the cars can be designed for the maximum speed possible. All other safety rules, such as pit speed and fuel limitations would apply just like current races. In short, lets get the race to be about the latest in technology. If I wanted to see which driver had the best skill, with all other things being equal, I would watch the IROC series. |
